The first photo before starting any transition treatments, circa 1994. The second photo is one month before facial surgery (June 99), but after a year of hormone therapy and 3 years of facial electrolysis. There is quite a bit of softening but clearly male at 42. The 3rd photo was taken 1 month after facial surgery, in August 1999. HRT and electrolysis do a lot, but they didn't quite get there. Note that the difference between photos 1 and 2 are 5 years, and 2 months transpired between photos 2 and 3. Official web site of Sally On November 10, 1999, Lynn Conway underwent facial feminization surgery (FFS). The 10 hour operation was performed by Douglas Ousterhout, M.D., D.D.S., at the Davies Campus of the California-Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. Doug Ousterhout is the surgeon who pioneered this highly aggressive form of facial-bone reconstructive surgery for transsexual women. The aim of FFS surgery is to eliminate or reduce many of the cross-gender-related deformities of the facial bones caused by late-pubertal testosterone masculinization in MtF transsexuals. To visualize what's now possible, read about the surgery experiences and take a look at the remarkable before/after photos at the websites of Andrea, Becky , Madeleine , and Nicki , all of whom are patients of Dr. Ousterhout.
